Who sees the future, who knows the future, and who makes the future? If a wish or a dream comes true is it ours? Where did it come from? Why do we want it? Is life simply a coin toss floating in time waiting to be snatched and held? Do we make it happen? Is it a random snap of a finger instance moment selection, or can we choose which way to turn? Is it magic, illusion, something made from nothing? In the end there’s silence, peace after the last images of life fades from thought, and the whisper on our breath sounds a word. And, as the last word rolls off our lips into the eternal silence of a cool peaceful morning it’s broken, and this last flutter of time will offer a choice—be awake, asleep, dreaming or dead.
Awake Asleep Dreaming Dead eBook John Siwicki
Though not for everyone, this was a very unique, original story about the deeper questions of life, death and everything in between. If you have pondered over metaphysical thoughts and yearn for deeper answers about life, you should read this book. I have and I loved every second of it.I applaud that the author wrote in his own style, following his own rules, not worrying about accepted structure or rules. Those structures and rules can sometimes dampen a writers creativity and keep their work shackled by restraints. I like adventurous writers who are not afraid to push against those laws and boundaries and Mr. Siwicki does this with superb results.

Awake Asleep Dreaming Dead eBook John Siwicki Reviews
Today as I wiped the brow, fed and cleaned the rectum of a nameless man here at Mother Theresa's "Mother House", each agonal breath ( sans painkillers ) was an obvious effort of painful, terminal struggle. Like many others here, he bore it all with an unsettling calm sustaining belief that in a sense "set him free". Death would be a simply transformation, a natural transit to a raised or lowered level of existence in " a symphony composed by an unknown being" as described in this sweeping account of our lives dancing like a "fleet of ships floating in an upside-down sea (sky)".
Sam Young ( our Virgil? ) transits with the help of Tom Handbuster ( like a GPS voice ), Doc Holiday ( a man with an urgent agenda ), Ester ( an intresting character I wanted to understand further )...The judicious use of non-liner time, memories, and surprising twists in plot makes for excellent reading.
Except for an initial cascade of somewhat adolescent questions, Sam Young's story and his eventual "freedom" will tomorrow once again stir my understanding of this extaordinary opportunity to imagine the choices during "the last flutter of existence".
"Awake, Asleep, Dreaming, Dead" is two hours well spent.

This is a difficult to review as I am still thinking about some of the thoughts that rose in my mind. It is a book for those that love to think deep and reflect on their own life. It is the type of book that can make you rethink your own life and that is never a bad thing.
It is a great story line and it reflects the ups and downs of life well. The characters are interesting and keep you interested in them until the end.
I found parts a little confusing, but it kept me interested.
An amazing story about what everyone experiences. If you like riding a roller coaster you'll love this book; it has all the ups and downs, and accidents of life.
In the beginning I got irritated by the storyline repetition. Then I realized it was necessary to engage in the variety of situations and transitional outcomes.
It made me have an attitude adjustment and not to take things for granted. Loved the book. I bought 8 copies to give as gifts.
This is both a difficult book to review and an interesting book to review. The reader is taken through several scenarios involving high drama, picturesque landscapes, interesting characters and deep concepts. All the while we're wondering how things will turn out and if what we are reading is indeed reality or an alternate version of it. The ending provides additional food for thought.
The novel is divided into four main sections, each one starting word for word with exactly the same story yet quickly morphing into its own storyline. Each of these sections is divided into short chapters which brings clarity and ease to a complex storyline.
The novel is sufficiently abstract for readers who like to draw their own conclusions yet has enough plot to keep all readers engaged.
This is a unique (at least in my limited experience) and thought provoking book. Lyrical in the sense that at times it reads like a poem. I was swept away in ways similar to my experiences listening to a symphony. Not just reading a story but experiencing it. You really do not only use one sense at a symphony. Nor in this book. Bravo.
This was one of the most different books I have read. The story takes place in the past, present and a little of the future too. It was interesting how the story took people of the past and brought them into the present. Some of the chapters were a little repetitive, which was not my favorite part. Overall, it was a different kind of book and I enjoyed it.
Though not for everyone, this was a very unique, original story about the deeper questions of life, death and everything in between. If you have pondered over metaphysical thoughts and yearn for deeper answers about life, you should read this book. I have and I loved every second of it.
