This is a timeless story. I read it when I was very young (maybe 10) I am re-reading it again 50 years later
I just got back from Scotland and this book was mentioned. There is a statue of the dog in the middle of Edinburgh and it caught my interest. The book was a wonderful story.
A touching and wonderful tale of the loyalty of a little dog, and the town that adopted him as their own...A good read for animal lovers.
I chose to read Greyfriars Bobby because I once owned a lovely wee dog, called Glory, a West Highland Terrier. The ever loyal and endearing Bobby reminds me of that faithful little pooch, who sat by my side night after lonely night following the death of my wife.
Regrettably too many young people fail to read such heart warming stories which this author brings so vividly to life. If there is anything I could change it would be to return to the times when children read books written about such important historical events as those on rpwhich this novel
What a sweet dog, but the story is quite a tearjerker. Have your Kleenex ready almost from the very beginning. Without giving everything away I will just say that this is a very old tale that deals with the mourning of a little terrier for his master. Very well written and a joy to read, however if you love dogs the way I do it may be hard to get through it if you are a very sensitive person.
A beautifully written story of one of Gods faithful little creatures. A story just beckoning to by read by an animal lover. Even though there is controversy over who in fact Bobby's master really was, it really doesn't matter in the end. I've purchased additional copies of the book for family members.
In some ways reminds me of A Dogs Purpose but in this case of a true dog's devotion to someone beyond their death. Had seen Disney movie long ago but first read for the book. Everything I hoped for. Recommend highly. Keep hankie handy.
