I've been intrigued by Jack's story since he was introduced in the Alvarez Security series. His story is not one of tragedy, which was kind of refreshing. Not that tragic backgrounds are bad! But it was nice that both he & Bethany grew up with loving parents, and the issues they had were, idk, more normal? Like, Bethany is taking care of her grandmother who has developed Alzheimer's. Jack has spent his career in the military & has now opened his own security business. And his case is gruesome, and it gives him pause in starting a relationship even tho their chemistry is RIGHT THERE.But their stories intersect very well & the serial killer case was very interesting! There are also quite a few suspects & some "aha!" moments, which I really enjoyed. All in all, a great read from one of my favorite authors!! : )

Jack owner of Saints Protection & Investigation Co is satisfied with his business and his brothers who work for him, he's not looking for more that is until he meets Bethany the granddaughter of his neighbor who run The Mountainview Cabins. While his company take on a case to solve a serial killer case And Bethany takes over control of the cabins they take a chance on each other. Maryann Jordan knows how to write an alpha male who's tough and lovable and heroines are always strong and independent but also sweet and lovable.
Overall a good book but there were a few cons. I've read the authors Alvarez Security series and thought the books were good reads.
Pros
The storyline was strong and in depth. I liked that Bethany was independent and had a strong business sense. She was loving and had strong family values; she gave up her job to take care of her grams who had Alzheimers. Jack was strong and driven when it came to his business and brothers in arms. He also had loved and took care of his own. The investigation into the serial killer was well developed.
Cons
1. Excessive cussing and dropping the F-bomb unnecessarily.
2. Bethany's appearing to be a dizz-ball and acting like a scared rabbit when she's nervous. Not articulating her words and making incomplete sentences.
3. Multiple Editing issues, words were missing from sentences or an extra word included that didn't belong, the incorrect use of a past tense word when the present tense should have been used.
4. Repetitiously saying or explaining somethings throughout the book was annoying, especially when talking about Alvarez Security or Jack's military past.
Overall all it was a good book and I wold have given it a 5 Star but I couldn't get pass the editing and excessive cussing.

This was a great book, and the second time I’ve read it actually. It revolves around Jack, the head of this super special ops task force organization run out of his home, and Bethany, his neighbor who runs a cabin rental place with her mother who is suffering from the onset of Alzheimer’s. Due to her mother’s wandering onto Jacks property… a BIG NO- NO… they met under embarrassing circumstances… for Bethany, that is. She was not expecting to come face to face with several very large armed men simply while retrieving her wandering grandmother. Once the men escorted them back home, she had a few moments to get to know the leader of the bunch, Jack. He seemed nice enough, but more importantly, he made her want thing she had no business wanting.
The two of them danced back and forth with their attraction for each other until they decided that there was definitely something between them worth exploring. Meanwhile, Jacks professional life is consumed with the search for a violent serial that continues to kill Innocent women. He and his men put in countless hours following leads, going through files, taking statements, and everything else they can think of… still the women continue to die.
As the days go along Jack and Bethany share as much quality time together as possible, and before long admit to falling in love with each other. Jack makes Bethany feel loved completely with a passion that was unequaled, and she in true is able to show him her love as she had once feared she would never be brave enough to do. Together they are perfect and complete.
As the search for the serial hunter heats up, no one would think to look next door at Bethany’s cabin retreats. One day while cleaning she comes upon a discovery which lands her directly into the serial killer’s hands. Will Jack and his team be able to find her before it’s too late. Will she become the serial killer’s victim’s next victim? Well, the chase is on, and Bethany’s life hangs in the balance!
This book is full of twists and turns for sure! There’s lots of mystery to be solved and Jordan does an excellent job of weaving that mystery so you don’t really know “who done it” till the end. And the love story she weaves between Jack and Bethany is perfect! Not so physical that there’s no room for depth to grow, and not so much talky-talky about every little emotion and situation that there’s no room for a little hanky-panky! It was a good health mix of “naughty and nice” if you will. I loved it!
This was my first time reading Maryann Jordan and I am so glad I did. This was an interesting mystery with Jack, the head of an elite private security firm working with his team to find a serial killer in his home state. While Jack and his team dive deeper and deeper into the case he simultaneously pursues a relationship with his lovely neighbor Bethany.
Bethany is a smart, loving, feisty and independent female lead that you can't help but like. Jack is the super hot, all alpha-male sweetheart you can't help but love, even when you're annoyed with him. ;-)
I absolutely loved the way Ms. Jordan wrote about Bethany's adorable Gram's. She had a very realistic portrayal of the disease process. She described the emotional ups and downs of a close family member as they lose pieces of their loved one to this terrible disease perfectly.
Looking forward to continuing this series!
